Zipline Tourism
When I was in Napa earlier this year, I got to talking with a traveling couple who didn’t drink. “Then why are you here?” I asked. “Ziplining,” they said, explaining that they only traveled to places where they could go ziplining.
What a great travel focus! I’ve since heard from other zipline-travel fans along with some of the best places to zipline in the world.

*Amy Gerling of East Greenbush Travel in New York points out that the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas has a zipline that goes across the ship. “I can’t wait to try it!” she said.
*In 2009, the Wild Animal Park at the San Diego Zoo opened the longest zipline in the continental United States, called Flightline. You actually zip over rare and exotic animals in the zoo’s open-air exhibits.
*The TreeTops Canopy Tour opened in spring 2009, in Lansing, West Virginia. Spokesman Caryn Greshman says, “We initially thought that spring, summer and fall would be the best and most scenic times for the tour, but we’ve discovered that winter offers our guests a clearer view of the terrain and that a little snow falling during the tour makes for an incredible zip.”
*Author Jonathan Lockwood Huie has this to say: “I’m far from a ziplining fanatic, but my wife — 58 — and I — 64 — have ziplined in Chile and Costa Rica. Both times, ziplining was the highlight of our trip, and we tend to favor future trips that offered the option to try ziplining again in another part of the world.”
*Sun City in South Africa lays claim to the fastest zipline in the world, the Pronutro Zip 2000, which is very popular with Sun City guests. Here’s a YouTube clip:
