Win Free Travel!

No, this isn’t some spammy come-on.  The truth is that more and more travel companies and tourist boards are running contests to award free trips to consumers in exchange for retweeting, signing up for an email newsletter, friending them on Facebook, or just playing an online game.

Here are a bunch that have come across my desk recently:

• Florida: Every month the Amelia Island CVB offers a giveaway of a two-night stay to new subscribers to their monthly e-newsletter.

• Wisconsin: Lake Geneva, a resort community in southeast Wisconsin, offers a monthly giveaway to an area resort, B&B or inn. This month, the site is offering a getaway package at The Abbey Resort plus a $100 gift certificate for an in-house restaurant.

• Aruba: To celebrate their 125th anniversary in 2010, Good Housekeeping is giving away a vacation to the Aruba Marriott. To enter, just answer which public figure you think belong on a list of “125 Women Who Changed the World in the past 125 years (and why)”.

• Mexico/Caribbean: Yapta.com is offering “Nine Months of Paradise by Marriott,” where you sign up to track a flight and are automatically entered to win a six-day stay at one of nine Caribbean or Mexico resorts depending on the month you enter.

• Geelong Otway Tourism is currently promoting The Great Ocean Road in southwestern Victoria, Australia. where you can win lots of different prizes by playing a game with Spike the Echidna, the spiky anteater.

• Wyndham Exchange and Rentals has a contest where your funny vacation stories gives you the chance to win a share of more than $40,000 in vacation prizes.

• Dover, Delaware: You could win a girlfriend getaway weekend of April 30, 2010 to experience the Dover Days Festival, which includes  accommodations for four girlfriends, lunch and dinner at local restaurants, a spa visit, and other items for a total value of approximately $1,500.
